Scholes shortlisted for Hall of Fame

Scholes shortlisted for Hall of FameUnited midfielder Paul Scholes has been shortlisted for a place in the National Football Museum Hall of Fame 2007.

The 32-year-old became United's highest Premier League scorer last week with his fine strike - his 96th in the league - in the 1-1 draw at Portsmouth.

He has now been included on a shortlist for the Hall of Fame along with six other names who will be announced shortly.

Viewers of BBC's Football Focus programme will be asked to decide who should join the prestigious roll of honour in a text vote scheduled for 1 September.

The winner will be inducted at a special ceremony at Old Trafford in Manchester on 15 November. Tickets are still available for the event but are selling quickly.

The Hall of Fame is now in its sixth year and players and managers already inducted include George Best, Sir Bobby Charlton, Sir Stanley Matthews and Bill Shankly. Each year the names are chosen by a panel including Sir Alex Ferguson, Gary Lineker and Gordon Taylor.
