Carling Cup draw looms

United will discover their opponents in the third round of the Carling Cup on Saturday afternoon.

The Reds, who have won the competition in 1992 and 2006, go into the hat along with 32 other teams - 16 of whom are from the Barclays Premier League.

Sunderland, Wigan and Derby County were eliminated by lower league opposition in the second round, which United and fellow European competitors sat out with a bye.

The only second round tie which is yet to be resolved is Nottingham Forest against Leicester City, which was abandoned at half-time on Wednesday evening. The game will be replayed on Tuesday, September 18.

The draw takes place at around 12:15 BST and will be screened live on Sky Sports 1 and Sky Sports News. Ties will take place on Wednesday, September 26.
