UEFA vow to protect United fans after Roma draw
Manchester United will work with Roma and UEFA in an effort to avoid a repeat of last season's violent scenes after being drawn against the Italian side in the group stages of the Champions League.
United supporters were baton charged by Italian police during a quarter-final first leg last April that resulted in fines for both clubs. UEFA have now promised Reds fans they will receive better protection for the final Group H game in December.
UEFA's director of communications, William Gaillard said: "There were some problems in Rome and all clubs should endeavour to have proper stewarding. We will take special care of Manchester United fans because we know they had trouble. We will tighten security to make sure they don't get a repeat of the incident. We will be liaising with the clubs and the local authorities.
"The Italian FA have a new training programme for stewards. It means we will have well-trained stewards instead of riot police."

Still on the Champions League and Rio Ferdinand is quoted in The Daily Star as saying United are "in it to win it" this year.

Elsewhere, The Mirror claims Sir Alex Ferguson thinks Roy Keane is his best ever signing as the pair prepare to cross swords for the first time as managers. The same paper says Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is set to try and solve United's problems up front as Fergie has handed him the job as forwards coach to help his former team-mates find the net.

The Daily Mail believes Sir Alex will not try and sign Dimitar Berbatov, despite seeing his attacking options further reduced this week by the retirement of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
